Giants Sign Free Agent Defensive Tackle Gabe Watson
The New York Giants signed free agent defensive tackle Gabe Watson Tuesday.
Watson was a fourth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2006 and played in 62 regular season games for Arizona, starting 21 of them. He also played in six postseason contests, including a start in the Cardinals' 27-23 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.
The 27-year-old has 83 tackles and two sacks in his five-year career.
Giants blog Big Blue View isn't entirely clear on what Watson's place on the New York offensive line will be:
It's unclear if the Giants signed Watson to start or for depth, but that picture should become clearer over the next few days at training camp.
The Giants offensive line is undergoing a drastic overhaul this off-season. After Rocky Bernard was not re-signed and Barry Cofield joined the Redskins, the team was left with Chris Canty and two youngsters--second year player Linval Joseph and rookie Marvin Austin. Adding Watson to the list adds some experience.
