The New York Jets announced Tuesday that they have signed LB David Harris to a long-term extension, though terms of the deal were not immediately available.
Harris had been designated as the team’s franchise player, with a tag worth slightly more than $10 million. He wants to finish his career with the Jets, and the team wants to keep him long-term, so it was only a matter of time. The move will also free up cap space.
Harris played in all 16 games for the Jets last season, recording 99 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. He recorded 127 tackles in both 2007 and 2009 and has spent all four seasons with the team.
Harris is a part of the "Core Four," a group of Jets considered extremely valuable to the franchise. That list includes D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold and Darrelle Revis. Harris was the final one in the group to be signed to a deal.
