Coming into Sunday’s Super Bowl, it’s popular to debate the most valuable stars on the Packers and Steelers. Who’s better on defense: Clay Matthews or Troy Polamalu? Who’s more explosive: Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings? And who would you rather have at quarterback: Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlisberger? And on and on. But on Sunday, the MVP will be decided in a more tangible fashion.
Packers Vs. Steelers Odds: The Best Bets For 2011 Super Bowl MVP
Who are the favorites? Well over at Bodog.com, Aaron Rodgers leads everyone with 3/2 odds, Ben Roethlisberger is the second most-likely with 7/2 odds, and beyond those two, it begins to get a lot more wide open. Greg Jennings (12/1), Rashard Mendenhall (15/2) and James Starks (15/1) highlight the rest of the field on offense.
Meanwhile, Troy Polamalu (15/1) and a pair of Packers (Charles Woodson and Clay Matthews, both 18/1) are the defensive players with the best odds. And I know it’s a longshot, but what about James Harrison at 25/1? Isn’t there a chance that he single-handedly destroys the Packers offense and/or takes Aaron Rodgers out of the game?
But even with all these choices, the field at 16/1 is still pretty attractive. And if you’re looking for history to guide you, keep this in mind: The last two Pittsburgh Super Bowls saw Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes win MVP awards. Speaking of which, did we mention Mike Wallace at 16/1?
