In case you missed the fighter jets flying overhead, the constant cameos made by troops overseas, the tribute to Ronald Reagan, or the retired U.S. General reading the Declaration of Independence(!), the NFL was sending some pretty clear messages with its broadcast of Super Bowl XLV. Kind of absurd, or merely redundant? Who can say.

↵Without delving too far down the wormhole, I’ll just say that everyone should check out of Jeff MacGregor’s column on the subject over at ESPN. It’s good stuff, and a worthy counterpoint now that we’ve all digested the NFL’s rendition of “America! F--k Yeah! (featuring the Black Eyed Peas).”
