Kevin Gregg, Orioles Reach Contract Agreement

The Baltimore Orioles have had an exceptionally busy offseason. They've traded for third baseman Mark Reynolds. They've traded for shortstop J.J. Hardy. They've signed free agent first baseman Derrek Lee. They've signed free agent reliever Jeremy Accardo. They've re-signed free agent reliever Koji Uehara. And on Tuesday, they've made just another addition.

According to Jon Morosi, the Orioles have reached an agreement with free agent reliever Kevin Gregg. The contract is pending a physical, and while the terms are unknown, it's expected that Gregg's deal will be for two years and worth somewhere around $10 million.

The 32-year-old Gregg will take over as the Orioles' closer, after serving as the closer for the Marlins, Cubs, and Blue Jays over the past four seasons. He's generally known to be somewhat unsteady and walks a few too many for comfort, but he does still have a 3.79 ERA in his four years as a closer, so he is by no means ineffective. Should he struggle, the Orioles will turn to Uehara for Mike Gonzalez, but Gregg will get the first crack.

Update: via Dan Connelly, Gregg’s deal is worth $10 million over two years, with a vesting third year option.
