The Denver Broncos officially announced the arrival of John Elway to the organization. Elway becomes the Executive VP of Football Operations and Joe Ellis is now listed as President, according to Broncos owner Pat Bowlen.

“John Elway’s leadership, competitiveness and passion for the Denver Broncos will position this team for long-term success through his work leading our football operations,” Bowlen said. “John has won championships as both a player and executive, and his experience will be a valuable addition to this franchise. He is the perfect fit for this role, and I am excited to welcome him back to the Denver Broncos.”
Elway of course won a pair of Super Bowls with the Broncos and a championship with the Colorado Crush, an arena league team part of which he owned.
Elway’s first order of business will be helping to figure out the next head coach of the Broncos. Josh McDaniels was fired midseason and the Broncos have been involved in a search for the next head coach since then. There are several candidates believed to be involved but the most high profile one is Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh.
