After nine years with the New Jersey Devils, it appears as though Jamie Langenbrunner's days with the club are numbered. He's a healthy scratch in tonight's game against the Philadelphia Flyers, has reportedly cleaned out his locker at the Prudential Center and, according to more than one report, he's been asked to waive his no-trade clause.
Devils’ Jamie Langenbrunner Reportedly Asked To Waive No Trade Clause
Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports that Langenbrunner says “it looks like” he won’t be a Devil much longer. He’s in the final year of his contract. He earns $2.8 million this season.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that the most likely destinations for Langenbrunner are Dallas, St. Louis and San Jose. The falling out between the club and their captain could be a result of the hiring of Jacques Lemaire as interim head coach. Just before the postseason a year ago, the two butted heads regarding ice time.
The New Jersey Devils are struggling to get in front of Pittsburgh in the Atlantic Division. Despite needing every point they can get as they work for a division crown, head coach Jacques Lemaire scratched captain Jamie Langenbrunner from Saturday night’s game at Carolina.
Lemaire apparently felt that Langenbrunner needed some rest before the playoffs, but it doesn’t sound like Langenbrunner shares that opinion.
With a little more than a week to go before the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this might be the worst time for a coach and captain to lock horns, but that’s exactly what it appears is happening with the Devils.
