WTA CEO Stacy Allaster announced at this year’s WTA Championships that the problem of female players grunting during matches will be targeted in young players - starting with junior academy developer Nick Bollettieri.
WTA Wants To Enforce Grunt-Reduced Play
↵Allaster said there has been a “slight increase” in fan’s dissatisfaction with the players’ noises.

So, why do players grunt?
↵Caroline Wozniacki explains:
↵↵“If you grunt really loudly your opponent cannot hear how you hit the ball,” she said. “Because the grunt is so loud, you think the ball is coming fast and suddenly the ball just goes slowly. In tight moments, maybe the grunt helps them with getting less nervous.”
