Last month, I wrote an article wondering exactly what Edwin Jackson was up to. It’s a bit of an obsession of mine. The short version: Jackson is responsible for Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson on the Diamondbacks, Curtis Granderson on the Yankees, and Max Scherzer and Austin Jackson on the Tigers. It was written just as the Rays were starting to make a little noise, which made me note that Jackson was traded straight up for Matt Joyce, whose surprisingly good season was a big reason the Rays made the playoffs.
Dissecting Edwin Jackson’s Master Plan
What I didn't expect at the time, though, was that the Cardinals would come back too. Beyond spooky. It's obvious that Edwin Jackson has a plan. He can see into the future. Don't put money in his March Madness pool. But what is the plan?
We've figured it out with the Rays' game yesterday. Joyce was the winning run in the ninth inning, and he popped out. Jackson correctly saw that Dan Johnson would have pinch-hit and ended the game, and that the Rays would have won in Arlington. Tricky.
Now in today’s game, he gave up a couple of runs before the first out. That was to throw you off the scent of his necromancy. Now he’s in control again, and the Cardinals have a lead.
Now we know that if Austin Jackson and Curtis Granderson were switched last night, things would have been a lot different. It looks like Jackson is setting up a Yankees/Cardinals showdown. Sorry Rangers fans. Also, sorry Brewers fans. Looks like Jackson wants to face the Diamondbacks too.
