I'm going to get you all caught up on the Miami Marlins. They already signed Heath Bell. They already signed Jose Reyes. They have a ten-year contract offer extended to Albert Pujols. They're preparing to look at Prince Fielder if Pujols re-signs with St. Louis. They reportedly have a six-year contract offer extended to C.J. Wilson. And, from Ken Rosenthal, there's this, on Mark Buehrle:
Mark Buehrle Down To Marlins, Nationals, According To Report
Source: #Nationals, #Marlins finalists for Buehrle. And if Marlins get C.J., that seemingly would leave Buehrle for Nats.
We'd already heard that Buehrle was mulling three-year offers from the Marlins and Nationals. It's unknown whether those offers have been improved from the reported $36-39 million salary range. What's new information is that the Texas Rangers appear to be out of the race.
The Marlins are interested in signing one pitcher, not two pitchers, so as Rosenthal notes, if Wilson accepts their offer, Buehrle might just fall into the Nationals' lap. But if Buehrle accepts the Marlins' offer, Wilson will be left to sign elsewhere - possibly with the Angels. It seems to be a matter of whichever accepts first - if either accepts - which makes me hope that they both accept at the same time.
