The big news for the Penguins came before the game with the trade of Alex Goligoski to the Dallas Stars for James Neal and Matt Niskanen. The Penguins needed some offensive help, while the Stars made a move to clear some cap space for the impending signing of their star center Brad Richards.
Both teams are on the back end of back-to-back games. The Washington Capitals defeated the Buffalo Sabres yesterday afternoon, 2-1. Mathieu Perreault had a goal and an assist in the win and Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves in the win. The Penguins lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in a shootout, 3-2.
