Cesc Fabregas Determined To Captain Arsenal In Carling Cup Final, Despite Hamstring Injury

Cesc Fàbregas, the perennially injured captain of Arsenal, aggravated his hamstring problem against Stoke City on Wednesday and had to leave the match after less than fifteen minutes. Although the club believes the problem to be fairly minor, the likelihood of Fàbregas playing against Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final on Sunday looks to be quite slim indeed. Team doctors will assess the situation on Thursday afternoon, and have asked everyone to simply keep their fingers crossed until this time.*

Shortly after the match, Fàbregas sent out two Twitter messages that had even non-Arsenal fans tearing up.

I dont know if ill make sunday or no, but all i know is that from this moment to sunday 16'30 i wont sleep if its necessary. Ive waited...less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

...Too long to captain a final for arsenal and i wont give up till the last second.less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

The work of a man determined to get some good press after making a muddle of his desire to move to Barcelona? Or simply a footballer tired of injury and committed to wanting to lead his club to a trophy? Perhaps I’m just searching for good in the world, but I like to think that Cesc sincerely wants Arsenal to succeed, and he wants to lead them to that long-awaited trophy. Instead, he’s stuck playing the waiting game.
