Alex Murphy, a star junior forward in the Class of 2012, has committed to play for Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils. Murphy's currently ranked as the no. 11 player in the nation according to Scout.com, and he's the first member of the Blue Devils' 2012 recruiting crop.
Alex Murphy (Class 2012, No. 11 Overall) Headed To Duke To Play For Coach K
FOX Sports’ Jeff Goodman broke the story, and talked to Murphy about his choice:
Murphy ... is the younger brother of Gators sophomore forward Erik Murphy and he strongly considered joining his brother in Gainesville.
However, he was blown away on an unofficial visit to Durham last month.
"Ultimately, it came down to my relationship with Coach K," Murphy said. ``I went down last year and visited earlier this year and just felt at home. I felt comfortable with the players and coaches – and felt like there’s no better place. It was clear to me."
He won’t matriculate for a few years, but it’s a sign that as Duke prepares to defend its national title with another top 5 team in 2011, Coach K’s keeping an eye on the future, as well.
