The Cleveland Cavaliers have now lost a record 25 games in a row, thanks to a 99-96 against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. The Cavs trailed by 10 points with less than three minutes remaining, but fought back to get within three on a Antawn Jamison three-pointer with 1:41 left. After a Jason Terry turnover, Jamison missed his opportunity for a tie.
Cavaliers Vs. Mavericks: Cleveland Loses 25th In A Row, But Just Barely
The Mavericks turned the ball over again on their next offensive sequence, but maligned Cavs power forward J.J. Hickson, one of the team's great hopes entering the season, was called for an offensive foul. Terry hit a pull-up jumper to give the Mavs a five-point lead with 36 seconds left. Hickson availed himself a bit with a big putback dunk to get back within three, and Sessions stole the ball from Dirk Nowitzki with Dallas milking the shot clock.
But on the Cavs' final possession of the night, Anthony Parker couldn't hit a three, and the Cavs failed to get a second shot up before the buzzer sounds. And just like that, these Cavs have the longest losing streak in NBA history. No ties, no conditions. No one has ever had this many Ls in a row on the schedule.
In other action:
Blazers 109, Bulls 103: LaMarcus Aldridge had 42 points as Portland managed to fight through Chicago's excellent defense and pull out a big home win. Derrick Rose was excellent with 36 points and six assists, but the Bulls' frontcourt simply couldn't stop Aldridge or Andre Miller (27 points, 11 assists, many of those alley-oops to LMA).
Timberwolves 104, Hornets 92: The New Orleans have these really weird stretches where half the team forgets how to play basketball, and it's just bad. Kevin Love had another double-double (of course), with 27 points and 17 rebounds. Anthony Tolliver (a center, allegedly) and Sebastian Telfair (an NBA-level guard, supposedly) combined to shoot 7-12 from beyond the arc off the bench.
Suns 104, Warriors 92: Phoenix led by 16 after one quarter, and managed to hold the Warriors' advances all game by remembering that Golden State is truly awful at defense, at basically every position. Channing Frye hit five of nine three-pointers for the Suns. Golden State hit two three-pointers period.
