Maybe Marty Schottenheimer isn’t done in pro football. There haven’t been any rumors connecting him to the NFL but, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Schottenheimer is on the verge of becoming the head coach and GM of the Virginia UFL team called the Destroyers.
Marty Schottenheimer To UFL? It’s Close To Happening, Report Says
The Destroyers were previously the Florida Tuskers until deciding to move the franchise to the Virginia Beach area this year. If Mort’s suggestion is accurate, Schottenheimer will be their next head coach and GM.
It’s a surprising move because I always felt that if Schottenheimer came back to pro football he’d have a place in the NFL. It’s unclear if this move is being done because he simply wants a new challenge and that’s the UFL, if he wants to coach again right now and the NFL is locked out or if there is no place for him in the NFL.
This news is surprising because it’s coming completely out of the blue. I’ll be curious to hear Schottenheimer’s reasoning for the move if and when it happens.
