Last season, of course, Angels first baseman Kendrys Morales famously broke his leg during a celebration at home plate. The injury knocked him out for the remainder of the year, dealing a significant blow to the Angels' lineup.
Kendrys Morales Shut Down With Foot Soreness
Morales came into 2011 looking to recover and get healthy in time for Opening Day. Mike Scioscia initially thought that Morales’ odds of making the opener were good. However, Morales hasn’t been running as well as expected, as he hasn’t yet been able to go full speed in a straight line, and he also hasn’t been able to cut or curve due to pain in his left foot. And now, only making matters worse, that pain has caused the team to shut him down:
#Angels 1B Kendrys Morales shut down b/c of soreness in ball of L foot, another setback in return from broken leg. Was in LA Mon to see dr.
It's safe to say that Morales is going to begin the season on the disabled list. Mark Trumbo will fill in at first base for however long Morales is out of action, and that could be quite a while yet, as he needs to be able to run without any problem before the Angels place him on the active roster.
