Dany Heatley scored two goals and Antti Niemi made 26 saves as the San Jose Sharks won a hockey game. Again. It was their eighth win in a row and their 17th win in their last 20 games. The team is on an incredible streak right now that's seen them go from the bottom of the West, up into the playoff picture, and now to the ascent of the conference.
Red Wings Vs. Sharks: Dany Heatley, Antti Niemi Propel San Jose To Eighth Straight Win
The win pulls them within just three points of the Red Wings, the team they defeated on this night. The game had an exciting, playoff feel to it. Surely, Sharks fans are happy that they’re winning games that feel like playoff games. Well, as long as they win those actual playoff games.
Elsewhere in the NHL...
Wild 3, Rangers 1: NYR is falling apart, and at this pace, with the way Buffalo and Toronto are playing behind them, they're in serious danger of missing the postseason. Jose Theodore made 40 saves as the Wild were actually dominated pretty well in terms of scoring chances, but the Rangers got a taste of the medicine they dish out a lot of nights -- losing a game thanks to the opposing goaltender.
Canadiens 4, Panthers 0: Let’s just call it Le Centre BankAtlantic, shall we?
Leafs 3, Flyers 2: Kris Versteeg scored twice against his old team, but Philadelphia took seven penalties and couldn't seem to get into the game as Toronto topped them 3-2. Darryl Boyce scored the game-winner late in the third, and the Leafs inched closer to the postseason as a result.
Capitals 4, Blues 3: Jason Arnott scored the game-winner, and in two games with his new club he's been involved in both GWG's since. Yes, that means the Caps are 2-0 in the Arnott Era (too much?).
Senators 3, Thrashers 1: Moving on...
Oilers 4, Blue Jackets 2: Taylor Hall probably shouldn't fight anymore. After dropping the gloves with Derek Dorsett, Hall left the game with an ankle injury. Reports this morning indicate he might be out for a considerable amount of time, although that's not confirmed.
Predators 3, Canucks 0:On the Forecheck’s headline says it all: “Hahahamhuis.” The defenseman who didn’t want to stay in Nashville was the victim of an ugly turnover with just a few minutes left that gave the Preds a late 2-0 lead, essentially sealing the win. An empty-netter added to the score.
Kings 1, Coyotes 0: One goal allowed Los Angeles to jump from eighth to fifth in the West. This is fun and all guys, but that’s just ridiculous.
