Tuesday turned out to be a double whammy for the Texas Rangers. Not only did they have to pull Josh Hamilton early with a shoulder injury, they also wound up losing to the Detroit Tigers 5-4 on a Miguel Cabrera walk-off single.
Rangers Vs. Tigers: Miguel Cabrera Walk-Off Single Sinks Texas In Ninth
Hamilton got things started in the top of the first when he ripped an RBI triple off Tigers starter Brad Penny. However, he slid awkwardly into third, later slid awkwardly into home, and was then tended to by a trainer and removed from the game. There's not yet any word on the severity of his injury.
The Tigers knotted things up in the bottom half, and the teams would trade runs into the bottom of the sixth, when the Tigers went ahead 4-3 on a Brennan Boesch single. However, a Nelson Cruz RBI single in the eighth evened things up once more, setting the stage for the bottom of the ninth.
Darren O'Day came out of the Rangers bullpen and allowed a single to Brandon Inge, who was bunted to second. Two walks and a strikeout later, the bases were loaded with two outs, and O'Day had to face Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera swung and didn't get great wood on the ball, but he hit a grounder that managed to sneak through the hole between shortstop and third, bringing Inge home with the winning run.
The series wraps up Wednesday afternoon, with Dave Bush opposing Max Scherzer.
