Golden State Warriors general manager Larry Riley received some good news and some bad news on the final day of the 2010-11 NBA regular season. Matt Steinmetz of CSN Bay Area reports that Riley's contract has been extended through at least 2013. That report followed news from plugged-in Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, who reports that new Warriors owner Joe Lacob will soon announce the hire of agent Bob Myers as assistant general manager.
Warriors Retain GM Larry Riley, Hire Agent Bob Myers To Help
Myers has a client list including Brandon Roy, Kendrick Perkins and LaMarcus Aldridge, which indicates that he's likely in line to take over from Riley before 2013, given the money he's giving up. This isn't unprecedented, however.
In 2008, agent Jason Levien left the representation business to become the Sacramento Kings' assistant GM. He left the Kings in 2010 amid reports of a clash with GM Geoff Petrie. Last summer, the Phoenix Suns hired agent Lon Babby to run their basketball operations. (He promptly traded for two of his former clients, Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress.)
