On Saturday afternoon, the New York Yankees evened up their series against the Texas Rangers with a 5-2 win. In his first start as a Yankee, veteran right-hander Freddy Garcia pitched six scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the year.

In his 84-pitch season debut, Garcia gave up a single, a double, and a walk while striking out one. In relief, Rafael Soriano gave up a pair of runs to the Rangers lineup, but Mariano Rivera slammed the door in the ninth to pick up the save. 13 games into the season, Rivera already has six saves to his name.
Offensively, the Yankees were powered by Mark Teixeira, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, a sacrifice fly, and three RBI. Robinson Cano went 1-for-4 and chipped in with two RBI.
In a losing effort, Rangers starter Derek Holland gave up five runs over 7.2 innings. Elvis Andrus and Michael Young each recorded a hit and an RBI.
With this win, the Yankees improve to 8-5 and have sole possession of the A.L. East lead. Despite the loss, the Rangers are tied with the Kansas City Royals for the best record in the American League at 10-4.
