And then there’s Stewart. Stewart began the year 2-for-26 and earned a demotion. He returned a week and a half ago but has gone 1-for-21, so back he goes to Colorado Springs. He hit well down there for the couple weeks he hung around and doesn’t have anything left to prove in the PCL, but he’s clearly driving people bonkers within the organization, and while he might still fight his way back to starting at third, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see him get moved to another team.

Two weeks after getting sent to the minors, Opening Day third baseman Ian Stewart is back in the majors with the Rockies.
For his part, Stewart had a good attitude during his stint in the minors, but is resolute about playing regularly now that he’s back up. David Ramsey (via the Colorado Springs Gazette):

Stewart had a rough start to his spring, spraining the MCL in his right knee, and then fighting off a hamstring issue in his left knee.
Lopez and Wigginton haven’t exactly hit the cover off the ball either, but Stewart still had a minor-league option left, which made him the obvious target if there was a roster crunch.
