Sunday night, Albert Pujols removed himself from a Cardinals/Reds game with some tightness in his hamstring. It was considered to be precautionary, and if few were concerned at the time, now they can be extra unconcerned. Says Cardinals GM John Mozeliak:
Albert Pujols Injury As Minor As Minor Gets
“Right now, it sounds like day to day,” said Mozeliak, who said that Pujols hadn’t even come in for treatment today.
“It does not sound like anything alarming,” Mozeliak said.
Basically, Pujols felt a little tug in his leg and decided not to push it. It was news just because it was Pujols, but had it been anybody else, it would not have been news because this hardly even qualifies as an injury. It’s more of a temporary inconvenience. Pujols might sit out Tuesday’s game, or he might not - that hasn’t been decided - but if he’s not back to normal tomorrow, he will be shortly.
Pujols is currently sitting on an .806 OPS that was down at .447 just two weeks ago. Since then, he’s batted .333 with six home runs. Early-season panic is always so hilarious.
