The Nationals have been without star third baseman Ryan Zimmerman since April 9, when he slid into second base and aggravated an abdominal strain he originally suffered in spring training. But while the team has sorely missed his defense and bat, there's at last some good news:
Ryan Zimmerman Injury Rehab Coming Along
Ryan Zimmerman, on DL with ab strain, will resume some baseball activities tomorrow. Will need to go on minor-league rehab before activated.
It’s a small bit of progress, but it’s progress. Zimmerman will spend a few days moving around and throwing and swinging and all that jazz, and if all goes well and there aren’t any setbacks, then he’ll report for a minor league rehab assignment.
So Zimmerman's return draws ever closer. That's excellent news for a 10-10 Nationals team that has gotten just about nothing from third base stopgaps Jerry Hairston Jr. and Alex Cora. The team has actually gotten just about nothing from everybody, as the Nats own an overall .654 OPS, so Zimmerman will provide one heck of a boost when he finally comes back.
