After Jim Calhoun won his third national championship Monday night, the Connecticut Huskies coach's job status has become a hot topic all over again. In a Tuesday interview with ESPN Radio Chicago, Calhoun said he "fully plans on coaching basketball next year," though -- AHA! -- he did not specify that he would coach UConn basketball. Gotcha, coach!
Jim Calhoun ‘Fully Plans On’ Coaching UConn Basketball Next Year:
Calhoun’s answer to the question on his career plans:
I fully plan on coaching basketball next year. You know, once again, we’ll have time in the next couple of months as I settle down, as we kind of look over everything, and I fully expect that I would. ... I’ve always been in love with basketball, I’ve never fallen out of love with basketball, but this team reaffirms me that kind of what we’re doing is worthwhile because the kind of kids you have.
Some have speculated that the pending suspensions and sanctions and so forth coming Calhoun’s way could convince the coach to go out on top. Then again, it’s not really spring time if somebody’s not starting rumors of Calhoun’s imminent exit, so happy spring, everybody.
