Jim Calhoun had previously said he "fully plans on" remaining the Connecticut Huskies basketball coach for the 2011-12 season, but in the afterglow of UConn's national title win he's dialed that certainty down a little. Calhoun, to CBS Sports on whether he'll come back to coach another season:
Jim Calhoun’s UConn Basketball Coaching Chances Down To 55 Percent
Right now I can honestly tell you I'm 55/45 ... I want that program to continue -- whether I happen to be the head coach or am not the head coach ... Eventually what I'm going to do, very honestly, is tell people 'If I'm there on Oct. 1, I'll be there [as coach]. If I'm not, I won't.'
Losing Kemba Walker, facing suspensions, dealing with lost scholarships and coming off a championship would have any coach thinking about retirement. He says he’s had enough of people asking him about whether he’ll come back -- kind of wonder what percentage he could use to describe his coaching chances that would result in the most questions about his status. Fifty percent seems too obvious. Maybe 49? Ninety? Or lower, like 16.1?
