Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has revealed that a fan has commenced legal action against the team - after being knocked out while observing training by a stray shot from French international and 'Lord of the Manor of Frodsham'* Djibril Cisse, who was with the club for the 2008/09 season and now plays for Athens-based Panithanikos. Quinn discussed the bizarre incident during an appearance on BBC radio when asked about whether fans should be allowed at the training grounds:
Sunderland Fan Suing Club After Being Knocked Out By Former Player Djibril Cisse
We had a supporter who got a bad injury. I think it was one of Djibril Cisse’s misses where he had a shot from 20 yards. I’m making fun of it now, but it knocked a supporter out. It was quite serious. That supporter is in the process of suing us right now. It was one of those things.
Considering the incident happened at least two years ago and it sounds like the suit has just begun, it must have been some shot to keep that poor supporter knocked out for so long. But really, he should look on the bright side -at least he didn't get on the wrong end of an Ashley Cole shot.
