Unsurprisingly, Gary Williams' retirement as the head basketball coach of the Maryland Terrapins has had some negative consequences for the school on the recruiting trail. Kansas State transfer Wally Judge was expected to go to Maryland before Williams retired, but has since chosen to attend Rutgers. Now, Mark Turgeon has been dealt another recruiting blow as point guard Sterling Gibbs has decided to play for the Texas Longhorns.

Gibbs, who plays for Seton Hall Prep in New Jersey, signed a letter of intent to play for Maryland before Williams retired. When Williams left the school, Maryland granted Gibbs a release from his letter of intent. At that time, Gibbs was said to still be considering Maryland, but he wanted to weigh all of his options before making a commitment following the retirement of Williams. With Texas point guard Cory Joseph declaring for the NBA Draft, Gibbs should have a shot at picking up some immediate playing time.
