Derrek Lee Injury: Orioles First Baseman Leaves Game With Strained Oblique

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee was pulled from in the third inning of Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox. From MASNsports.com:

Derrek Lee: strained left oblique. That can’t be good.No. No, it can’t. The oblique is a notoriously finicky muscle that takes a while to heal -- it’s not just a matter of ice and rest, so expect Derrek Lee to be out for a while.

Luke Scott is likely to be the first baseman while Lee is out, especially considering that Scott has a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. The Orioles could then put Felix Pie or Jake Fox in left field, maybe even platooning them.

The Orioles could call up once-prospect Nolan Reimold for outfield depth, though he has been scuffling in Triple-A. Brandon Snyder is the first baseman for Triple-A Norfolk, and he is on the 40-man roster, so that might be the more likely call-up.

Lee wasn’t doing well this season, hitting .227/.309/.333 in 154 at-bats.
