Derrek Lee Activated From DL By Orioles

It was in the middle of May that regular Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee suffered an oblique injury. Lee avoided the disabled list for a few days before ultimately giving in, as so many victims of the oblique strain inevitably do. But in good news, Lee's recovery was a quick one. Lee missed only a few weeks, and after making all of one minor league rehab appearance, Lee has been activated by the Orioles:

First baseman Derrek Lee will be activated from the disabled list today, start at first base and bat fifth against Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Romero.

Lee started every Orioles game at first until getting hurt, and while his numbers were by no means impressive, he’d been having a respectable month of May before being sidelined.

To make room for Lee, reliever Pedro Viola was optioned to the minors. Viola threw in one game, spinning 1-2/3 shutout innings.
