Philadelphia Union Reportedly Want To Alter Schedule To Accomodate Real Madrid Friendly

The Philadelphia Union are reportedly trying to get a regular-season match moved so that they can play a friendly against Real Madrid on July 23. The Spanish giants were originally scheduled to play Club America on that day at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field as part of the World Football Challenge, but have dropped out, according to the same report at Philly.com.

In order to accomodate the schedule change, several things would have to happen. First, the Seattle Sounders would presumably have to agree to make the change which comes during what is currently a scheduled period of rest for them. There is also a Division II football match currently scheduled at Qwest on that date, which would have to be moved. The Union are also reportedly demanding that Real Madrid use their first-team players, which may or may not be possible due to other international tournaments likely requiring the use of such players as Brazilians Kaka and Pepe and Argentina's Gonzalo Higuain and Angel DiMaria Read.
