The Philadelphia Union have apparently finalized their deal to play Spanish giants Real Madrid on July 23 at Lincoln Financial Field as part of the World Football Classic. In order to make room on their schedule, the Union were able to move their road match against the Seattle Sounders to Oct. 8.

Looking at the recently released CONCACAF Champions League schedule, it appears the Sounders may have been supportive of the move as well, as they are probably going to be traveling to Panama for their match on July 26-28. Their schedule appears to be less crowded around Oct. 8. One of the potential stumbling blocks of the deal was a scheduled Division II football match at Qwest Field, but that has apparently been moved.
Union CEO and managing partner Nick Saciewicz explained the move to Philly.com this way:
“It’s an honor to play these teams and we will always look to bring these types of teams in. We do this because we believe there is a misperception out there that our football is inferior to people who have never seen us play so this is a chance to prove those people wrong.”
