Ligue 1 Preview, Mid-Week 35: PSG Hope To Keep Up In Champions League Race, Lille Look To All But End Title Race

There are two massive Ligue 1 games Wednesday, with PSG traveling to face a reeling Bordeaux side in hopes of reclaiming third place from Lyon and Lille hosting a red-hot Sochaux with an eye towards making the title race very nearly a foregone conclusion. Two huge games with major a major impact on the season of no fewer than four teams. Not too bad for a Wednesday.

Bordeaux vs. PSG
Time: 19:00 CET/1:00 PM EDT

Bordeaux’s season has been, to be blunt, an unmitigated disaster, and it’s hard to see things being turned around in any meaningful sense before the end of the season. When your manager resigns because your fans are insulting his 16-year-old daughter, things are in a bad way. By comparison it’s tough to feel too terrible for PSG as they’re still very much in the Champions League race and so far as we know Antoine Kombouaré‘s mother has as of yet not had her tires slashed. PSG have recovered quite well after a down-season, but it still seems reasonable to think that missing out on the Champions League would feel like something of a disappointment. Luckily Bordeaux are such a disaster right now that the away side could probably not show up and Bordeaux would somehow manage to lose on own goals.

Pick: PSG, 3-0

Lille vs. Sochaux
Time: 19:00 CET/1:00 PM EDT

Lille can't clinch the title with a win tomorrow but they can make the discussion much less interesting as six points and (at the very least) eight goals is a whole lot to ask Marseille to overcome in two games. There's hope yet for Les Phocéens though, as Lille first must deal with a streaking Sochaux side that haven't lost a game since March 19th and have taken their past two games by a combined score of 7-0. Lille have been close to unbeatable at home this season and should be buzzing after their defeat of PSG in the Coupe de France final over the weekend, but Sochaux is as impressive as any team in France right now.

Well, any team except Lille.

Pick: Lille, 2-1
