Shane Victorino Activated From DL By Phillies; John Mayberry Optioned

Victorino’s rehab assignment lasted all of 16 plate appearances, in which he recorded two hits and a home run. He returns to a .284/.343/.503 batting line, and he’ll undoubtedly help stabilize the top of the Phillies’ lineup. Slowly but surely, that team is getting healthy.

Which sounds really terrible until you remember that you’re tearing little bits of your muscles all the time. Victorino isn’t dealing with a major hamstring tear; he’s just dealing with something that’ll set him back a couple of weeks instead of a couple days.

Interestingly, after Victorino was taken out on May 14, he was used to pinch-hit, and laid down a sac bunt on May 18, meaning that his DL stint can’t be made retroactive to May 15. Either the Phillies don’t care about those few days, or they didn’t think Victorino would need a trip to the DL at the time.
