A few weeks ago, the Phillies were having a devil of a time trying to get Shane Victorino over a strained hamstring. Finally they wound up placing their center fielder on the disabled list, which they really didn't want to do since Victorino had an .846 OPS at the time. But the DL stint allowed Victorino to heal quickly, and after a brief minor-league rehab assignment, Victorino is back with the Phillies on Friday. Jon Morosi:
Shane Victorino Activated From DL By Phillies; John Mayberry Optioned
#Phillies activate Victorino, send Mayberry to minors.
Victorino’s rehab assignment lasted all of 16 plate appearances, in which he recorded two hits and a home run. He returns to a .284/.343/.503 batting line, and he’ll undoubtedly help stabilize the top of the Phillies’ lineup. Slowly but surely, that team is getting healthy.
John Mayberry leaves after posting a .682 OPS over 117 PA. He got the bulk of the time in center with Victorino out, came up with a few big hits, and did fine for a stopgap. Now he’ll resume developing, or doing whatever it is he’s been doing, with Lehigh Valley.
