Wandy Rodriguez Hits Disabled List, Astros To Call Up Prospect Jordan Lyles

What looked probable is now official: the Houston Astros have elected to place starter Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Saturday afternoon. There is a silver lining for Astros fans, as they’ll get to see top prospect Jordan Lyles make his major league debut.

The decision to place Rodriguez on the DL came after an MRI on Saturday revealed fluid in his left elbow. As Grant noted on Friday, this is the first time the southpaw has had significant elbow trouble. Through 66 innings this season, the 32-year-old has curated a 3.41 ERA.

Lyles, 20, is regarded as the best pitching prospect in the organization. He’s spent his entire season to date at triple-A Oklahoma City, where he’s maintained a 3.20 ERA and a 1.237 WHIP. The righty is slated to make his debut on Tuesday night against the Cubs.
