Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan has been on the Disabled List for a couple of weeks with a deep thigh bruise, but is set to be activated in time for Tuesday’s game in Atlanta. Tom Haudricourt:
Nyjer Morgan Off DL, Zach Braddock On With Sleep Disorder
When Morgan is activated, manager Ron Roenicke will have another option in center field besides Carlos Gomez, who once again is performing poorly offensively. After going 1 for 11 in the three-game weekend series in Houston, Gomez was batting .233 with a .277 on-base percentage.
Gomez’s on-base percentage isn’t exactly a fluke. In 479 games over five seasons with the Mets, Twins and Brewers, Gomez has a .292 career OBP. In none of those five seasons has he managed to reach .300.
Before the season, I suggested that the Brewers wouldn’t win the Central with both Yuniesky Betancourt and Carlos Gomez eating outs like a starving elephant in a peanut factory.
Both of them are doing what they always do, and Morgan’s return is the best chance to get one of them out of the lineup.
Meanwhile, Morgan’s taking the roster spot of lefty reliever Zach Braddock, who’s reportedly being placed on the DL with a sleep disorder.
