Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin will be named the NBA Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, according to a report. Griffin was about as much of a lock as one can be for the award after putting together a dominant campaign and electrifying crowds night-after-night.
Blake Griffin Named NBA Rookie Of The Year, According To Report
Citing an unnamed source, ESPN reported the news on Tuesday evening. A press conference is set for Wednesday for what the Clippers called a “major NBA awards announcement.”
Griffin will be the first Clippers player to win the award since the star-crossed franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1984. Terry Cummings won it with the San Diego Clippers after the 1982-83 season, while Adrian Dantley, Bob McAdoo and Ernie DiGregorio won the award during a five-year stretch with the Buffalo Braves, who moved to San Diego in 1978.
Griffin averaged 22.5 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the Clippers this past year and was named an NBA All-Star for his efforts. His dunks and alley-oops became a staple in highlight packages throughout the year, earning him NBA Slam Dunk Contest entry. After dunking over a car, Griffin took home the top honors in the dunk contest, as well.
