Borussia Dortmund may already be the champions of Germany, but there are still Champions League places up for grabs in the final rounds of the Bundesliga. With two games to go, German giants Bayern Munich sit in third place, the final UEFA Champions League qualifying position. They sit two points above Hannover 96, who have been battling Bayern for that position for most of the season. This weekend, both teams are favored to win, but neither faces an absolute cakewalk.
German Bundesliga, Round 33: Title Decided, But Bayern Munich And Hannover 96 Fight For Europe
St. Pauli vs. Bayern Munich
Saturday, 9:30 am ET
After a valiant fight in their first year back in the Bundesliga in a long time, St. Pauli is not mathematically down in the Bundesliga 2 as of this moment, but their chances of survival are so tiny that they’re hardly worth discussing at this point. Still, they’re actually not a terrible side for being in last place, and the atmosphere at their home stadium is fantastic. Both Ivica Olic and Hamit Altintop are out for Bayern, but otherwise, they should have a strong team to pick from, complete with all of their star players.
Stuttgart vs. Hannover 96
Saturday, 9:30 am ET
Sitting just one point above a relegation playoff game, Stuttgart have absolutely everything to play for this weekend against Hannover. Hannover trail Bayern by two points, so nothing less than three points will do against a Stuttgart side that is certainly more talented than their points total suggests. Cote D’Ivore international Didier Ya Konan is Hannover’s club record scorer in the Bundesliga, and he could be the key man on Saturday.
