Girondins Bordeaux Manager Jean Tigana Resigns After Embarrassing Defeat Against Sochaux

Had Girondins Bordeaux defeated Sochaux as expected at home today, they would be very much in the race for a Europa League position, despite their disappointing form throughout the season. The expected didn’t even come close to happening, as the visitors crushed Bordeaux 4-0, scoring all four of their goals in the opening 30 minutes of the match. After the match, as a result of the loss and other circumstances, Jean Tigana resigned his position as manager of Bordeaux.

After the fourth goal, defender Michael Ciani was substituted by Tigana, and got into a shouting match with his manager on the sidelines as a result. Also, there is a rumor floating around that Tigana’s daughter was verbally abused by Bordeaux fans at the match and that this influenced Tigana’s decision, though that rumor cannot be corroborated at the moment. In any event, Tigana is no longer the manager of Bordeaux, and the news was so big and so surprising that the club’s website crashed mere seconds after posting the official announcement.
