The Minnesota Twins’ Francisco Liriano had a no-hitter going against the Texas Rangers for seven innings; only one Ranger reached base, Elvis Andrus, on an error by Twins third baseman Luke Hughes.
Twins’ Francisco Liriano No-Hitter Broken Up In Eighth
The game went to the bottom of the seventh with Minnesota leading 1-0. The Twins then proceeded to have one of their longest innings in recent history; they sent ten men to the plate and scored five runs. All the runs were unearned due to an error by Andrus — perhaps some sort of payback for the Twins’ error. Rangers starter Matt Harrison had to leave the game with an unspecified arm injury after giving up a leadoff single to Danny Valencia. Mark Lowe was the recipient of all the damage; the biggest blow was a three-run homer by Michael Cuddyer.
After Yoshinori Tateyama recorded the third out, Liriano, perhaps too rested, came out for the eighth inning and gave up a leadoff single to Adrian Beltre. The Rangers have since scored in the inning, making the score 6-1 Twins.
