Arizona State and Texas played one of the better games of this year’s NCAA Baseball tournament on Sunday evening, and it’s the Longhorns who came out victorious, riding a great bullpen, some timely hitting, and a little bit of luck to a big Game 3 win in Austin, clinching them a spot in the College World Series.
NCAA Baseball Super Regionals 2011, Texas Vs. Arizona State Final Score: Longhorns Win Game 3
The Sun Devils got off to a fantastic start in the first inning and appeared to be putting the Longhorns under some serious pressure in the first inning when Riccio Torrez hit a two-run home run off of Sam Stafford to put his team up 2-0. Unfortunately for Arizona State and their fans, those would be the only runs they scored all night.
Texas chipped away at the lead surely but slowly, finally taking over the lead for good in the 6th inning when some good hitting generated a couple of runs. This followed a bizarre 5th inning in which Texas tied the game when Brandon Loy scored on a balk by Michael Lambson. Texas kept up their momentum in the following inning, and they’ve punched their ticket in Omaha as a result.
