Just over a week ago, the Florida Marlins placed Hanley Ramirez on the disabled list with a back injury that had been bothering him for some time, and that had kept him out of the lineup since May 29. The DL stint was retroactive, meaning Ramirez was eligible to return on June 14, and on June 14, Ramirez has returned. Joe Capozzi:
Hanley Ramirez Injury: Marlins Get Shortstop Back In Lineup
Hanley Ramirez leading off tonight for #Marlins
That Hanley is leading off is new, since previously Chris Coghlan batted leadoff, and Hanley batted third. But the slumping Marlins are in desperate need of a shake-up, and who knows, maybe Hanley could provide the right spark.
Ramirez batted 5-for-8 over a very brief minor league rehab stint, and though he returns to a paltry .615 season OPS, he's an excellent bet to improve on that number rather substantially assuming he's feeling better. While he was out, Emilio Bonifacio kept the shortstop position warm, and is actually riding a current streak of five consecutive multi-hit games. Bonifacio is playing center field on Tuesday.
