Tell you what, Braves fans: I have good news and bad news. Why don't I give you the bad news first: your awesome starter, Tommy Hanson, is going on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. It was announced on Thursday that Hanson had been scratched from his Friday start, and now he's going to miss more than one turn. Oh no!
Tommy Hanson Injury: Braves Righty Hits Disabled List
And now the good news.
Hanson says he had an MRI on Friday which showed inflammation but no structural damage. He says he has had discomfort in the shoulder, mostly between starts.
So at least nothing major is wrong. Hanson says he’s been dealing with discomfort for a few weeks, now, and since he’s only got inflammation, the treatment ought to be simple rest, and maybe one of those cortisone shots that’s going around. In other words, this doesn’t look to be a long-term issue.
Prospect Randall Delgado was recalled to take Hanson's place on the roster and in the rotation, and he will start on Friday against the Rangers. In an unrelated move, the Braves also optioned infielder Brandon Hicks and recalled righty reliever Jairo Asencio.
