Jed Lowrie Injury: Red Sox Shortstop May Be Headed To DL

On May 29, Red Sox shortstop Jed Lowrie and left fielder Carl Crawford collided while chasing a fly ball in Detroit. At the time, Lowrie said he had just a "dull ache" in his shoulder.

Last night in Tampa, according to the Boston Herald, Lowrie felt another pain in his shoulder while striking out in the first inning of the Red Sox' 4-2 win over the Rays.

Lowrie told manager Terry Francona he feared a subluxation of his shoulder, like the joint had “slipped out.” He left the game, lifted for Marco Scutaro, and was examined by the team’s athletic training staff. And although the shoulder never popped out of place, Lowrie will undergo further tests today to determine why he’s having persistent and increasing pain.

Lowrie told ESPN Boston reporter Gordon Edes, however, that it did feel like "his left shoulder felt like it had popped out of the socket". It's possible that Lowrie could be headed to the DL; the Boston Herald article indicated that Drew Sutton had been pulled early from a game for Triple-A Pawtucket. Moves like that often indicate a minor leaguer is headed to the majors.
