South Carolina Vs. Texas A&M Final Score, CWS 2011: Another Walkoff Hit By Scott Wingo

After seven-and-a-half scoreless innings in Omaha, the South Carolina Gamecocks have beaten the Texas A&M Aggies 5-4 in each team's 2011 College World Series opener, with 2B Scott Wingo ringing up his fourth walkoff hit of the year. Carolina will advance to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday night, while A&M will get the California Golden Bears Tuesday afternoon.

The game’s 4-4 deadlock continued into the top of the ninth inning, when ... well, when nobody scored, for one thing. Carolina pitcher John Taylor pitched a perfect inning in relief of Matthew Roth, with Matt Price taking over to record the final two outs of the half-frame.

The defending champions sent C Robert Beary to the plate, who came just a couple feet shy of winning the game all at once. His deep shot bounced off the outfield wall, giving him a double. He skidded around second as he considered heading for third, wisely doubling back. The risk wouldn’t have been worth it, as the team could spend at least three at bats on trying to bring him home.

CF Jackie Bradley Jr. connected after giving up on trying to bunt Beary along, driving a ball into left field to put runners on the corners with no outs. Nick Fleece then walked RF Evan Marzilli to load ‘em up.

The Aggies sat LF Brandon Wood to add Scott Archer as an extra infielder to deal with Wingo, who had reached base on every at bat in the game thus far. With a 1-2 count Wingo banged a hit off the rightfield wall, sending the Cocks to the winner’s bracket.
