Through four innings against Texas A&M, Cal had scratched out just one hit and had three base-runners. But after the fifth inning, the Golden Bears had three runs — and the lead in an elimination game at the 2011 College World Series.

The Golden Bears finally got to Texas A&M atarter Michael Wacha, with Darrel Matthews and Austin Booker rapping out two singles after leadoff batter Chad Bunting reached on a throwing error and scoring their first two runs of the game on a fielding error. Cal then added a third run on a sacrifice fly, claiming a 3-1 lead that is their biggest in Omaha so far.
The Aggies failed to respond in the bottom half of the fifth inning, despite beginning the inning with a leadoff single and putting a man on second with one out.
