In early June, Chicago White Sox starter Jake Peavy was diagnosed with a mildly strained groin. Initially considered day-to-day, Peavy was soon thereafter placed on the disabled list.
Jake Peavy Activated From DL By White Sox, Will Start Wednesday
Since then, Peavy's thrown some bullpens and a good minor league rehab start with Charlotte, and so Wednesday he's been activated from the DL to start against Doug Davis and the Cubs. While Peavy volunteered to come back as a reliever, he'll get another look in the rotation, at least until the next time he gets hurt.
On the year, Peavy has made five starts with the White Sox, whiffing 20 while walking just four. With the team having no good candidate to be dropped from the rotation, they’ll continue rolling with six guys instead of the usual five. Say what you will about the six-man rotation, but a guy like Peavy probably benefits from the extra day of rest every turn.
