MetLife Nearing Naming Rights Deal For New Meadowlands Stadium

The home of the New York Jets and Giants could soon be known as MetLife Stadium. Sports Business Journal reports that MetLife, which currently has a corner sponsorship with New Meadowlands Stadium, is nearing a deal that would re-name the home of the Jets and Giants MetLife Stadium.

The cost of acquiring the naming rights to New Meadowlands Stadium? Between $17-18 million per year, according to the report.

Several sources said MetLife is paying about $7 million a year for its cornerstone deal, and that the naming-rights package being considered would average between $17 million and $18 million a year.

It’s characterized as “very advanced, but not yet complete.”

Several years ago when plans for New Meadowlands Stadium started, it was thought that they could get upwards of $30 million per year in a naming rights package. Clearly that was ambitious and the deal won’t be worth nearly that much.

Other high-profile stadiums, like Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, don't have a naming rights deal.
