Portland's Wesley Matthews was hurt in a post-practice incident in January, but Matthews didn't know the full extent of his injury until he met with a doctor after his Trail Blazers' first round loss to the Dallas Mavericks in April. That may have been a good thing for the team, because Matthews or the Blazers learning about a torn tendon in his ankle might have meant that he would be shut down for the Blazers' stretch run.

Instead, Matthews kept playing, despite his right foot being completely numb:
He played 48 games, including the playoffs, with the ailment but labored behind the scenes.
“People don’t really know this, but over the last two months of the season I couldn’t feel my right foot,” Matthews said Monday. “It was completely numb.”
Matthews is currently rehabilitating his ankle and foot, using the same platelet-rich plasma treatment fellow Blazer Brandon Roy used on his knee, and hopes to be ready in time for the 2011-12 season. But it is unclear whether Matthews will be able to work with Portland's doctors in the event of an NBA lockout.
