Francisco Liriano might have thrown a no-hitter earlier this season, but he was actually having a pretty poor season. His walks were up -- way up, in Nick Neugebauer territory. His strikeouts were down -- way down, in Eric Milton territory.
Francisco Liriano Injury: Lefty Returns From Disabled List, Starts Tuesday
So when it came out that the lefty wasn't quite 100%, it wasn't a good thing, but at least there was a sense that there was something preventing him from being the old Liriano. He returns from the disabled list on Tuesday, making a start against the Indians.
Liriano is rejoining a Twins team that is at the bottom of the American League, though they've been on a roll lately, winning five in a row. A healthy Liriano isn't exactly going to get the Twins back in the Al Central race, but it certainly isn't going to hurt the team's momentum.
Well, unless he pitches like he did at the start of the season. But in a perfectly linear world, that was due to an inflamed shoulder that’s better now, right?
